The Limits of a Fixed Battery Pack

Traditional battery packs are welded into a fixed series and parallel (S/P) configuration. This is simple, but it creates a \"weakest link\" problem.

If one cell becomes weaker or discharges faster than others, the performance and usable capacity of the entire pack is limited by that single cell. This leads to reduced lifespan and wasted energy.

The Solution: Reconfigurable Systems

A Reconfigurable Battery System (RBS) uses a switching matrix to dynamically change the connections between cells. It can adapt its topology in real-time to balance cells, bypass faulty ones, and optimize its output for any load.

Guaranteed Combinations: The Binary Method

How can we guarantee any configuration efficiently? By using a modular design based on powers of 2, similar to binary counting.

Instead of 15 individual cells, we create four modules:

Module 1: 1 cell (2⁰)
Module 2: 2 cells in series (2¹)
Module 3: 4 cells in series (2²)
Module 4: 8 cells in series (2³)

By selectively combining these modules, we can create any series string from 1 to 15 with minimal components and complexity.
