Val Town is a collaborative website to build and scale JavaScript apps.
Deploy APIs, crons, & store data – all from the browser, and deployed in milliseconds.
A shared movie tracker for L + J. Monthly themes (Scandinapril, Star Wars, Spielberg…) plus 📌 ongoing lists (Best Picture winners, James Bond) that get worked through adhoc, in order.
- Big ✓ — you watched it together (you always do). This drives progress and "hide ✓".
- L / J pills — that person had seen the film before the theme started. Point-in-time: the 👀 seen setup runs once per theme and prefills from Letterboxd histories (ltraino + freethechurro), so you only correct by exception. Creating a new theme drops you straight into it.
- Service chips are clickable — like JustWatch's platform logos: tap Prime/Netflix/ Disney+/MUBI/BFI/Plex/iPlayer/ITVX to open that service's page for the film. Rent/Buy only shows when there's no included option. JW ↗ gives the full availability picture.
- ★ rate — once watched, the quick link becomes a Letterboxd search to log/rate it.
- Tap a title for all links (JustWatch / Plex / Letterboxd / showtimes), details, edit, delete.
- Default sort is list order (the order films were added — chronological for Star Wars, Bond and Best Picture); shortest-first, year and A–Z also available.
Lives in the val's SQLite database (themes_v1, films_v1). Seeded from the original
spreadsheets in June 2026. The app re-syncs whenever the tab regains focus, so two phones
stay in step. No login — anyone with the URL can tick and edit.
Plex links open a search across whatever servers the logged-in Plex account can reach.
