\n Automated testing and code quality tools have become the gold\n standard within Agile / Scrum / Extreme Programming (XP) teams. By\n using automated tests including unit, integration, user interface;\n combined with code quality analysis tools, SonarQube, Veracode -\n these teams can develop high quality (confidence) software and fix\n defects close to the point of their origin. These techniques also\n facilitate the trust to refactor code, because if something\n breaks, the regression tests find defects almost immediately. By\n working though these lessons you too will become convinced of the\n power and need of these techniques.\n

\n In lesson one you will use the JavaScript framework\n Mocha and\n the BDD / TDD\n assertion library\n Chai\n to execute tests (directly in the browser) for the classic\n game rock-paper-scissors. Please click the\n ‘Remix Project on Glitch’ button to re-mix the\n project on Glitch. This will generate your own personal\n project that you can modify and change anytime. Do not be\n afraid to mishandle anything, as you can always come back to\n this page and start again. Note that the project will only\n live for 5 days, if you do not create a Glitch\n account. Since more than one of these lessons involve Glitch\n it is highly recommend to\n create your own free account to save the\n project forever.\n

\n In lesson two you will use the same libraries and execute\n the same tests. Although, unlike lesson 1 you will be using\n the\n ‘terminal’ interface to run a\n ‘npm command’ that will kick off the tests. This is\n how a continuous integration / delivery pipeline would run\n the tests (automated testing). We are also adding an\n additional library to the mix called\n Istanbul\n that allows us to understand how much code coverage the\n automated tests are providing. \n In lesson three we will be exploring an application\n produced by a very popular open-source generator\n called jHipster,\n while using the code analysis tool called\n SonarQube via\n sonarcloud. This\n generator is great for jump starting projects with a\n Java backend using Vue, React or\n Angular on the front end. When a new entity is\n generated the backend code (including tests) and\n front-end code (including tests) are all built for\n you. Please explore each of the tabs: Overview, Issues,\n Security Hotspots, Measures, Code, and Activity and please\n be prepared to answer a few questions based off your\n findings.\n
