How to

\n It's like Spotify wrapped! But for Bandcamp\n instead. Show off the albums you bought this year!\n

\n Go to Bandcamp, click on your icon in the top right, and click\n on the purchases\n item.\n Scroll down and click 'View all ––– purchases' if you need to.\n Scroll to the first purchase this year, and select all of the text\n from that purchase to the top of the list, and hit copy.\n Then paste into the textarea above.\n\n This might be a little tricky, but just focus on, y'know, copying\n the right content. Mouse down in the gap after the first album of 2024,\n drag up till you're in the gap before the last album of 2024\n and all the text in those albums is highlighted.\n

\n I don't use Spotify: I buy albums on Bandcamp. They're\n ~~a nice independent company~~\n ~~sadly been acquired by Epic games~~\n ~~purchased by Songtradr~~\n attempting to unionize.\n

\n I wish Bandcamp were a perfect self-sustaining company, but\n nevertheless in their volatile acquisition-hot-potato era\n they're still, I think, miles ahead of Spotify in terms of fairness\n to everyone involved.\n

\n Bandcamp gives artists a big cut and waives their revenue shares\n on 'Bandcamp Fridays', a tradition that they've impressively kept\n going well after the peak of COVID ended. And you just buy the albums\n and own the music. It's nice!\n

\n Spotify does\n a lot\n of bad\n stuff!\n Having once been a purveyor of music,\n I can say for sure that we made a lot more money on Bandcamp than we did\n on Spotify, even though way more people listened to us on Spotify.\n Plus, all subscription streaming services eventually fail and their content\n goes extinct.\n

\n Unfortunately, the method for building 'Bandcamp unofficially wrapped' is\n needlessly complex because, like way too many companies,\n Bandcamp has locked down\n and hobbled their public\n API, probably because bad actors would abuse it, which is reasonable, but\n on the other hand, made it impossible to do creative things like this that benefit\n Bandcamp without annoying workarounds. I don't know, people would probably\n \n train some large language model on Bandcamp data if there was a public API,\n because that's what people do now.\n
