Copy it to start your own, and read this file\nalongside it. For the full contract, see the [top-level README](../README.md).\n\n## Walkthrough\n\n**The factory.** Authors export an `(options) => Integration` factory, not a\nbare `Integration`:\n\n```ts\nexport function helloWorld(options: HelloWorldOptions = {}) {\n```\n\nAll configuration lives in the closure (`subject` here), never on the\n`Integration` object. Take an options bag even when you need no config\n(`options = {}`) so the calling convention stays uniform across integrations.\n\n**The contract object.** `defineIntegration` takes the metadata plus a handler:\n\n```ts\nreturn defineIntegration({\n\tname: \"Hello World\",\n\tslug: \"hello\",\n\tdescription: \"…\",\n\trequiredEnv: [\"HELLO_GREETING\"],\n\thandler: (req, ctx) => { … },\n});\n```\n\n- `slug` is where the router mounts you (`/hello/`). It must match\n `^[a-z0-9-]+$` and avoid the reserved slugs; `defineIntegration` throws at\n construction if it doesn't.\n- `requiredEnv` lists the env vars you read. Import-time reads run\nbefore the val's environment is available and break standalone mounting.\n\n**The dual-mode idiom.**\n\n```ts\nconst who = ctx?.user ? `@${ctx.user}` : subject;\n```\n\n`ctx` is present when routed, absent when standalone — its absence is how the\nhandler knows no router is in front of it. `ctx?.user` is the router-provided\nVal Town username; fall back to your own default when it's missing.\n\n**Relative links only.**\n\n```ts\n`about` // not href=\"/about\"\n```\n\nRelative URLs resolve inside the mount prefix when routed and at the root when\nstandalone, with no branching. Root-absolute paths (`/about`) break under a\nmount — see the top-level README's prefix rules and\n[ADR 0002](../docs/adr/0002-location-header-rewriting.md).\n\n**Standalone export.**\n\n```ts\nexport default helloWorld();\n```\n\nBecause `defineIntegration` returns a *callable* integration, the same value is\nboth an `Integration` (for `createRouter`) and an HTTP handler (as a val's\ndefault export). One factory return value, two mounting modes — see\n[ADR 0003](../docs/adr/0003-callable-integrations.md).\n\n## Testing\n\n[`hello_test.ts`](hello_test.ts) exercises both modes:\n\n- **Routed** — via `createRouteHandler`, the OAuth-free test seam, with a user\n injected. It asserts the routed user is greeted and that links stay relative.\n- **Standalone** — call the default export (and the factory with a custom\n `subject`) directly, with no `ctx`, and check the fallback
